Tall Ships Are Coming To Yarmouth Harbour: Download
============================================================
For anyone who has seen the magnificent beauty of the Tall Ships the thought of seeing them again is definitely awe inspiring. This year during the Yarmouth Seafest 2007 the Tall Ships will be entering our Yarmouth Harbour.
The Port of Yarmouth has signed a contract with the Halifax Waterfront Development Corporation, host of the 2007 Tall Ships Challenge that will see five vessels come to Yarmouth Harbour as part of the 2007 Seafest Activities.
The Tall Ships Providence, Peers’ Fancy, Sherman Zwicker, Unicorn, and Virginia, will be in Yarmouth Harbour Friday, July 20. and Saturday, July 21.
The ships will be part of the 30th annual Seafest celebration. Organizers are hopeful that shipboard receptions and harbour cruises will be part of the event.
Dave Whiting, Port Manager of Yarmouth, will once again have his hand out for monies from locals and Tourists wanting to view the vessels up close. Although he has been quoted as saying, “If there is a charge it will be very minimal.”
Our resulting questions are:
1. If Tourists can go to other destinations and view the Ships up close for free why would we prevent them from doing the same here?
2. If groups like Destination South West Nova receive Government funding to help promote Yarmouth and surrounding areas shouldn’t they also pick up the bill for something that is such an obvious Tourist Attraction?
3. Do you think locals and tourists a like are tired of being charged, and possibly over charged, for such activities?

Seafest:
“Same old, same old”. Every year it’s the same old thing, nothing new. Is there no one out there with any fresh ideas ? Yarmouth has always stuck with the same thing year after year after year, I feel all they do is use the same posters each year and only change the date.
The music talent we have in this town and that is the best they can come up with?
If you never change , you will always remain the same.
Yarmouth has to get over the idea , that what worked 30 years ago doesn’t work anymore. It’s time to make changes.
I could start on the Yarmouth Exhibition but another time.
Yarmouth Tourism:
Yarmouth wants to promote tourism and they spend thousands of dollars sending people here and there and producing those glossy brochures that just get thrown away.
Travellers today care less about flashy pieces of paper. The secret in “selling” our town is the internet, internet, internet. I’m not talking about checking up on hotels and B & B’S. They want to see what our community looks like ,the sights ,scenery and the beauty.
I challenge you to do a Google search on Yarmouth. You may be quite surprised at what you find. There is nothing there for the Tourist to see but Commercial sites.
The traveller is much smarter today than ever before. They do their homework before leaving home. We have to pull our heads out of the sand and give the people what they want. We have to leave the dark ages behind.
You could live in the Northeastern part of Nevada, USA. and have to drive 14 hours to see a good body of water. Here is nothing but sage brush and Ceder Tree’s. Motorcycle Jamboree and Cowboy Poetery. To see thousands of motorcycles coming is not the most exciting thing in the world. The thought of being able to see the Tall ships come in would be a dream come true. There is nothing more beautiful than to see a ship on the water, no matter how big. My last trip to Canada I was able to spend a day on a Lobster boat out of Lower Wedgeport. What a great time we had. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Cherish all that you have in Yarmouth. To me it’s the most beautiful place in the world. You want boring? Come join us in Nevada, USA.
Was just looking at the line up of tall ships coming to yarmouth. Four out of five are American, what’s wrong aren’t we good enough to see some of the worlds best known tall ships?
I Canadian even though 1 states it’s flag is Canadian but is owned by a new jersey family.
Come on people get with it, are we second class or what?? They are going to charge us more to view these US ships than halifax charges to see the worlds tall ships.
Tall ships? More like tall schooners. Small town, small boats.
Wow, great comments from you all!
I’m in agreement that the Town, municipality, and certainly the Tourist Associations, should be doing far more.
I also know what it means to a person like Lola to see those ships come sailing in.
I’ve travelled about 38 states and when I couldn’t see my way to the shore I certainly missed it! I even used to buy Captain Highiner Fish just to get the taste of fish!
Yet, I also found beauty in every place I visited including Nevada.
The good thing is as Lynn, and other Yarmouth County Bloggers continue to write, post pictures, and promote Yarmouth County and surrounding areas, more people like Lola will discover us and come here.
Despite anything that “the powers that be” might be lacking, if we continue to do these things we will continue to draw more people to come here, and Yarmouth County and surrounding areas will once again become a true destination and not just a gateway.
I’m looking forward to seeing the Tall Ships even if they are small ones!
