Imagine if your child didn’t understand the danger of an on coming vehicle and the damage it could do to them!
Imagine living in a world where your child, or grandchild, had already been hit and injured once and the situation was a ticking time bomb for it to happen again!
Any good parent, or guardian, protects their children and keeps them under a watchful eye. However, despite best intentions there are times when children do wander into danger!
Katherine Langdale is a grandmother whose heart is filled with fear on a daily basis!
Katherine has an autistic grandson who has no known concept nor understanding of the danger posed by an on coming vehicle!
Imagine living with that fear on a daily basis!
Imagine not being able to allow your child to play outside on a warm summer day and having to keep your child pined up in the house for fear of them being run down by a vehicle!
No matter how closely a parent, grandparent, or guardian, tries to watch over their children there are always times, even for split seconds, when their backs are turned. Imagine that in those split seconds your child could be gone! Struck by a vehicle and gone forever!
Now, imagine that something as simple as a fence could help to solve this problem! Yet, despite your best efforts you are not able to afford the fence! Why, because your time is spent watching your grandchild and because of your situation you are not able to work.
This is the situation for Katherine Langdale, it takes all of her efforts to care for her grandson, thus she can not work to obtain the funds needed to build a fence on the property where she lives.
Katherine claims she has asked local Gov’t. officials, at all levels and has either not had any response or been told monies are not available.
Katherine has been at her current address for one year and previous address for five years. Due to her situation she lives in subsidized housing (low rentals) and moved upon the advice of Housing from her previous home which was on two levels to her current home on one level.
At her previous home there was a fence, built from donations made by Kent, Pleasant Supplies, and Home Hardware. However at the new location there is no fence. Their new home is at ground level which is good, however it also means being at street level which puts her grandson in immediate danger. It is also in a location where not only is the street at the front door, but there is a swamp and brook at the back of the property that poses it’s own dangers. So it seems a fence would help solve these problems.
So as a result Katherine is appealing to the public for help. If you can help in any way please do so. Whether you’re able to donate fencing, building of the fence, or help in influencing housing and Gov’t. officials to help, please do so.
Towards this end and failing any Gov’t. funds becoming available Katherine has begun gathering items for a yard sale benefit type event. Again if you can help, even with the donation of items for a yard sale please do so.
