The Stop The Quarry group from Digby neck area scores a triumph as Labour Minister Mark Parent rejects the development of the White Point, Digby Neck Quarry.
Earlier this month, months of protest, research, and public lobbying by the STOP THE QUARRY - on Digby Neck, has paid big dividends.
When the Environment and Labour Minister Mark Parent rejected a proposal by Bilcon to build a basalt quarry and marine terminal at Whites Point, Digby County the Minister’s authority to reject the proposed project became entrenched in section 40 of the Environment Act.
Mr. Parent thanked the Federal - Provincial Panel, an independent report panel, for its report, stating He will take the board’s additional recommendations under consideration and will share them with appropriate departments.
The Panel highlighted the unacceptable risk to the environment and the community that such an undertaking would present and thus the Bilcon Project was rejected by Mr. Parent who says he agrees with the conclusion.
