Terry Fox Researchers Quoted in Reader’s Digest March 2008

Some of you will remember that we held the Yarmouth County Terry Fox Run & Head Shave Event in Sept. 2007. Some of you helped to support us in our fund raising efforts. The South West Nova ATV Assoc. helped marshal the walk, Sandra from The Male Ego Hair Salon did the Head Shave, and all in all we raised much needed funds to help in Cancer Research.

So, now were’ pleased to bring you the following announcement recently sent out by the Terry Fox Foundation.

As a supporter of The Terry Fox Foundation, it is important for you to know that your donation is making a difference. The article, “Winning the War on Cancer,” in the March 2008 edition of Reader’s Digest, highlights the impact that donations to cancer research have made. Tony Redler of Regina benefited from research that allowed him to have a stem-cell transplant that put his Hodgkin’s disease into remission. Prue Boyd of Nanaimo, BC, was diagnosed with a gastrointestinal stromal tumour in 1999, but is alive today because she was able to participate in a trial of a targeted drug called Gleevec. Lisa Priebe of Vancouver has beaten breast cancer with the help of Herceptin injections, another new targeted drug that is helping women battle the disease. Of every dollar you donate to The Terry Fox Foundation, 87 cents goes directly to cancer researchers across Canada. Indeed, most of the cancer researchers quoted in this article have been recipients of Terry Fox Research Grants.
