Often this time of year when were shut in our homes and offices due to wintery conditions we often find things grow stale and we reach for the Air Fresheners. Thus it is for this reason we bring you a recent article found in the TREPA Newsletter. ============================================================
A Bit of Fresh Air
We all need fresh air, but some air fresheners have turned out to supply us with harmful chemicals instead of fresh air.
Studies have shown that they do not offer health benefits yet contain harmful chemicals linked to breathing difficulties, developmental problems in babies and cancer in laboratory animals.
Chemicals found in fresheners:
Benzene and Formaldehyde (byproducts of production), both carcinogens and suspected respiratory toxins. Phthalates used to soften PVC products (toys, raincoats, shower curtains; found in upholstery, detergents, cosmetics). Lab animal studies show some phthalates interfere with hormonal systems, disrupt testosterone production and cause malformation of sex organs. Researchers report a link between human exposure and adverse changes to the genitals of baby boys. California has passed legislation to ban six forms of phthalates.
Tests have found varying levels of the chemicals in several air fresheners.
Highest levels of phthalates:
Walgreens Air Freshener Spray (removed from shelves after a petition was sent to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Consumer Product Safety Commission)
Walgreens Scented Bouquet Air Fresheners (removed from shelves)
Walgreens Solid Air Fresheners (removed from shelves)
Ozium Glycolized Air Sanitizer
Medium levels of phthalates:
Air Wick Scented Oil
Febreze NOTICEables Scented Oil
Glade Air Infusions
Glade PlugIn Scented Oil
Oust Air Sanitizer Spray
Low levels or no phthalates detected:
Citrus Magic
Febreze Air Effects Air Refresher

It’s High time someone spoke out about the 70,000 toxins found in Home Care and Personal Care products.
I take my hat off to TREPA for doing so!
PS: If your baking something give me a call, I take my coffee with one cream and one sugar! Just kidding. (Mmm, Maybe!?)
