When I’m asked what YarmouthCounty.com is I often respond; “YarmouthCounty.com is a Web Site that provides information and resources for the residents, businesses, and visitors, to Yarmouth County and surrounding areas.”

However, this doesn’t really do justice to our online web presence; nor does it accurately describe what we’re really all about.

I started YarmouthCounty.com after nearly 8 years of self learning and after a number of other websites that I had developed and used over those years.

I knew back in my early thirties, about 1997, that if I didn’t learn how to use a computer I would be left behind.

I also realized early on that our area really needed exposure on many levels and that often our people and businesses were getting the short end of the stick when it came to affordable services and overall exposure on the world stage.

Having traveled over 38 States and all our Canadian Provinces (excluding the Territories) I knew that there were ways of creating interest in our area and that our area truly has a lot to offer.

So, I began my online journey.

I had also grown up in a family, with my adopted mom and dad — Victor and Enid Hurlburt, where I learned a young age the importance of helping out. Of doing what I could to help others on whatever level that was.

So, after many years of learning, in 2004, I decided it was finally time to use what I had learned to help myself and others from our local area to become better known on the world stage.

Thus April 12, 2005 I launched YarmouthCounty.com. I knew I wanted it to accomplish a few things. I had no idea how popular it would become or how much people would come to depend on it! Our recent survey shows 61% of our visitors both locally and world wide depend on YarmouthCounty.com as one of their primary sources of information. What an awesome responsibility this has become!

From day one I wanted to do what I could to support our local Churches, Clubs, Charities, Non-Profits, and other Community Groups and Event Organizers. Providing free or low cost alternatives so that they may better flourish in todays economy.

As well as to support the local arts community through showcasing the works of our local artists, writers, photographers, singers, bands, musicians, and others.

While drawing more and better attention to Yarmouth County and surrounding areas in such a way as to create increased tourism and support for local businesses.

By providing low cost alternatives to help our overall area to flourish, I believe, allows local businesses to be seen as the heroes. With their use of our affordable advertising and other online services they act to support the free services and the work we do for the non-profit and arts communities. Which creates a win win win situation for us all.

Today, YarmouthCounty.com has grown to be a major player on the world stage. We have more pages indexed by online Search Engines than nearly all the other area Sites put together including the local Tourism Association Site. We’ve had nearly one million hits thus far this year and we’re continuing to grow in an ever changing and always challenging online world!

The bottom line is, whoever you are, we are here to help support you in your own success with the end goal of seeing us all work together to make Yarmouth County and surrounding areas a destination and a place where dreams do come true!
